Hello cat loving friends and thank you for taking the time to find out more about me and More Purrs!

I’m Nadia, and I launched More Purrs on International Cat Day, in August 2020.

My dream

For cats everywhere to feel safe & happy at home and to be loved unconditionally by their humans.

My Background

I’ve lived with cats for 35+ years and, since 2017 have volunteered in a rehoming cattery, for a national animal rescue charity. During this time I completed an Animal Care Diploma and was nominated for Pet Plan’s Animal Charity Volunteer of the Year (2018). In 2018/19 I studied Advanced Feline Behaviour for Cat Professionals with International Cat Care, which I proudly achieved with distinction.

I share my home with 3 very special rescued cats, 2Sox (17 years), Buster (12 years) and Spooks (2 years).  You’ll hear more about them later!  According to my parents, I’ve always been ‘in tune’ with cats and you’ll see from photos that I’ve enjoyed their company since I was tiny.

My interest in cat behaviour

Despite having always loved cats, my fascination with behaviour started unexpectedly 13 years ago when 2Sox began pee’ing on the sofa!  It was a really stressful time as you can imagine… the frustration, the smell, the constant checking for wet patches and the unfortunate incident when a guest sat down in a puddle… CRINGE!

2Sox underwent a full clinical examination to rule out underlying medical causes, and was given a full bill of physical health.  The vet advised that her behaviour was likely down to anxiety and recommended a book to help me identify the cause.  I got the book and was immediately glued! It completely opened my eyes as to how 2Sox might be viewing her world at home (which I had imagined was perfect!)  I was successful in my detective work and within a month, after making a few changes around the home, harmony was restored – and our house finally smelt fresh again!

On reflection, I felt guilty and wondered whether I could have prevented this problem & avoided her experience of anxiety.  As far as I was aware, I’d always done my best to provide a wonderful home for my cats, so how had I let this happen?

This, my friends, is the one problem we all have in common when it comes to understanding this extremely sensitive species… we were born as humans!

Thankfully, scientific research and the ongoing dedication of feline behaviour experts has shed a magnificent insight into the lives and minds of cats.  I can’t wait to start sharing this fascinating knowledge with you and I hope you will enjoy exploring your home through your cat’s eyes as much as I do!
